Claflin Routs Morehouse In SIAC Baseball

Charleston, S.C. – Elliott Melton and Rashad Bivens drove in three runs piece each to back the solid pitching performance of Keamond Eison as Claflin University routed Morehouse College 15-3 in the opening game of its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball game Friday at Collins Park in North Charleston.

The three-game conference series is part of the Low County Classic. Game Two will be played Saturday at West Ashley High School at 1 p.m. The finale of the series shifts back to Collins Park on Sunday at 3 p.m.

With the win, Claflin improve to 7-18 on the season and 1-3 in the SIAC.

Morehouse falls to 4-18 and 1-3 in league play.

Eison, 2-5, held Morehouse batters in check in going the distance. He allowed nine hits, two earned runs, no walks and faced 29 batters.

Jordan Davis, 2-3, took the loss for Morehouse.

The Panthers offense broke a 3-3 tie with 12 runs in their last two innings. Claflin scored six runs in both fifth and sixth innings, aided by four extra bases (two doubles and two triples).

The Panthers finished the game with 15 hits and scored in every inning except the fourth.

Bivens was a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs, while Melton collected two hits and 3 RBIs in leading Claflin.

Jeturi Brown and Johnny Stevenson produced two hits and two RBIs each for the Panthers.

Amyr Smith and Jared Maner led Morehouse with a hit and an RBI.  Smith contributed three hits for Morehouse.
