Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University baseball team will host Salem University in a three-game series at Historic Mirmow Field this weekend.

Claflin will enter the series with Salem at 2-2 after being swept by Lincoln Memorial University in a double-header on Monday (5-4, 10-1).

Salem opened the season last weekend with three straight loses, falling to Emmanuel College (Ga.) (8-4, 10-3) and Georgia Southwestern State University (7-6).

In the Panthers four games this season, catcher Clyde Parker is the team’s top hitter at .583 with a home run and 7 RBIs. He was instrumental in Claflin posting it’s first-ever win over Francis Marion University with a grand slam and 5 RBIs.

Parker is followed by a pair of .500 hitters in Eric McElveen, with a home run and 7 RBIs, and Rod Gerardic.

Craig Hopkins is hitting at a .400 clip for Claflin.

Parker had a no decision in the Claflin win over Southern Wesleyan, but pitched six strong innings, giving up six runs on six hits and striking out four batters.

Salem is led offensively by Harrison Hollis with a batting average of .600 followed by Remmington Boyce at .429 for the young season.

The top pitchers for Salem are Sam Chapman, Carson Ellis and James Wiseman.

After the Salem series, Claflin will host Bluefield State College in a three-game series at home next weekend (Friday-Sunday, Feb. 15-17).
