Claflin Face Lincoln Memorial In 2018 Home-Opener

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University baseball team will be in search of their first win of the season, playing host to Lincoln Memorial University on Monday (Feb. 5) at Historic Mirmow Field.

First pitch in is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Panthers will enter the game winless on the early season at 0-3 after being swept by NAIA member Saint Thomas University (Fla.). Claflin was outscored by a 31-6 margin. The Panthers had eight hits in the series with Eric McElveen, Ashtin Knowles, Darrell Langston and Grayland Flower, all collecting two hits each.

Langston produced 2 RBIs in the series for Claflin, while Knowles had three of the Panthers eight stolen bases.

On the mound for Claflin, Alfie Carter and Dillon Parker pitched the most innings in the series at five each.

Lincoln Memorial, a member of the South Atlantic Conference, opened the season this past weekend in a three-game series against Peach Belt Conference foe USC-Aiken on the road.

Lincoln Memorial has won the last three games in the series with Claflin. The last win in the series for the Panthers came during the 2015 season as Claflin won the second game of the doubleheader 5-4.

Following the contest with Lincoln Memorial, the Panthers will host Virginia State University in a three-game series this weekend, starting Saturday (Feb. 10) with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday (Feb. 11) with a single game at 1 p.m.
