NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior outfielder Carlos Ortiz (Cleveland, Ohio) earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference baseball Player of the Week honors after a powerful weekend at the plate the conference office announced on Monday, Feb. 29.

Ortiz swatted two home runs and added two doubles and a triple to drive in nine RBI during a four-game series with Niagara University Feb. 26-28.  He was 7-for-15 at the dish for a .467 batting average, and slugged 1.133 with 17 total bases and five runs scored.

So far this season, Ortiz is batting .308 through seven games and has an on base percentage of .438.  He was a Preseason MEAC First Team selection, and this is the first weekly honor NCCU has garnered for the 2016 season.
