Bethune Cookmen Sports Information
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Jason Beverlin, back-to-back defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball champions Bethune-Cookman University officially released its 2018 competitive schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 22. In all, the Wildcats will play a 53-game regular season schedule.
Bethune-Cookman, 2017 runner-up in the NCAA Gainesville [Fla.] Regional, will host a total of 24 games at home inside Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, as well as playing 38 total games in the Sunshine State.
“I think our schedule is, once again, as competitive as it gets,” expressed Jason Beverlin. “We play some strong teams for non-conference play, and then, of course, play a traditionally tough MEAC schedule as well.”
BCU opens the season traveling to Mercer (Feb. 16-18), taking part in a three-game series in Macon, Georgia. It marks the first time since 2015 that BCU opens the season in the state of Georgia, having begun the campaign at Georgia Southern that year.
The Wildcats will host Jacksonville (Feb. 20) for their first home game of the campaign, before traveling to defending NCAA College World Series (CWS) champion Florida (Feb. 21). BCU then plays nine consecutive home games, including a three-game series against Milwaukee (Feb. 23-25) and another series against Florida Gulf Coast (March 2-4). The first MEAC series of the year sees BCU travel to in-state opponent Florida A&M (March 10-11).
The Maroon and Gold stay on the road for its next conference series at North Carolina Central (March 17-18), before hosting North Carolina A&T (March 24-25) back in Daytona Beach. For the first time in more than a decade, Volusia County neighbors BCU and Stetson will play a traditional three-game series against each other, this one taking place in nearby DeLand, with the series taking place March 29-31.
Other notable series include FAMU at home in the reverse three-game series (April 14-15) as the Rattlers travel to Daytona Beach, as well as BCU traveling to Miami (Fla.) for a trio of games (May 4-6) in Coral Gables.
Sprinkled in at Jackie Robinson Ballpark are games against UCF (Feb. 27), USF (Feb. 28) Fairfield (March 14), Georgia Southern (March 20), FIU (April 3) and North Carolina Central (April 21-22).
“This conference has gotten better and better each year,” admits Beverlin. “These conference series are always big, and I encourage our fans to come out and support us as we take on the MEAC Southern Division, as well as some very good non-conference opponents. I think it’s going to be a brand of baseball everyone will be thrilled to watch and enjoy.”
The regular season concludes with the annual MEAC Baseball Tournament taking place May 16-19. A venue for the tournament will be announced after the winter holidays by the MEAC Office.
