Benedict Tops Tuskegee, 5-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – David White Jr. hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and the Benedict College Tigers won their first conference baseball game with a 5-2 victory over Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon.

Armando Valentin led off the sixth inning with a double to right field. White followed with a towering shot over the left-center field fence, his fourth homer of the season. Javier Santiago later drove in Joseph Macaluso to make it 5-2.

Benedict improves to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Tuskegee falls to 4-14 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.

The Tigers opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Bradon O’Connor walked, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and came home on a groundout by Valentin.

Tuskegee scored two runs in the third inning. Benedict tied the game in the bottom of the third when Michael Garner singled and later scored on a Tuskegee error.

Jacob Lagos picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-0. He went seven innings and scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six. Ricardo Pagan pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season.

Benedict and Tuskegee will wrap up their conference series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
