Benedict Sweeps Morris In Baseball Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior pitcher Omar Compton had eight RBIs in his first two games as a batter as the Benedict College Tigers swept a non-conference doubleheader against Morris College on Monday at Tiger Field.

Compton had a grand slam and a pair of singles to bring in three more runs as the Tigers won 26-2 in the first game of the doubleheader. Compton had a solo home run in the second game, while Murrell Martin had a grand slam for the Tigers in a 13-3 win in the second game.

Benedict improves to 12-5 on the season. Morris was playing its season opener and falls to 0-2.

The Tigers scored 11 runs in the first inning of the first game against Morris, getting seven hits and taking advantage of four Morris errors in the inning. Benedict finished with 16 hits in the first contest, as three Morris pitchers combined to walk seven Benedict batters and hit eight more.

Christopher Floyd was 4-for-4 with four RBIs, Anthony Simmons had two hits and two RBIs, while Cheyenne Lopez and Yancy Freeny each drove in two runs. Michael Garner brought home three runs.

The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, as Martin had his grand slam and Floyd had a two-run double.

Morris had just two hits and committed 10 errors in the second game.

Benedict is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Newberry College at 1 p.m.
