COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team pounded out 16 hits to take a 22-7 victory over Miles College in the rubber game of their weekend conference series on Sunday at Tiger Field.

David White Jr. went 5-for-5 at the plate, scoring five runs and driving in four. He had a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Tigers an early 3-1 lead. Armando Valentin had a strong day at the plate as well, going 5-for-6 with five runs scored and three RBIs. Reinaldo Santiago had a two-run double as part of Benedict’s five-run second inning.

Benedict improves to 10-5 on the season, 2-1 in the SIAC. Miles falls to 9-10 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC.

The Tigers were leading 8-5 after four and a half innings when they pushed across four runs on just two hits and a Miles error in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-5 lead. A hit batter and a walk put runners on the basepath, and they both scored on a wild pitch. A White single put Valentin on third, and a pickoff attempt sailed past the third baseman, allowing both Valentin and White to score.

Benedict increased the lead with four runs in the seventh inning. Andrew McCoy opened the inning with a triple, and came home on a single by Valentin. White’s double scored Valentin. Two hit batters loaded the bases, and Skyler Sabado walked to bring in a run. Yancy Freeny‘s sacrifice fly scored another run.

Benedict added six more runs in the bottom of the eighth on four hits and two more Miles errors. Dantrell Lucas had a two-run double in the inning.

Robert Troiano III picked up the win on the mound.

Benedict is home against Morris College in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, starting at noon.
