ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its 2017 preseason baseball all-conference teams as voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The first team included several returners from last season’s all-conference team. Benedict and Miles led the preseason teams with four selections each. Claflin, Clark Atlanta, Paine, and Spring Hill all finished with three selections.

Pitcher Evan Krenz (Paine) secured a spot on the first team after finishing the 2015 campaign with a 3.43 ERA. Krenz finished the year with 78 strikeouts and was ranked 10th in Division II in victories with nine. Also representing the Lions on the first team were catcher Jahziel Morel and Ricky Carvajal who both return as the top offensive leaders for Paine.

Infielders Jason Howell, Malcolm Seabrooks, and relief pitcher Jordan Johnson all of Clark Atlanta each earned spots on the first team. Seabrooks led the Panthers in batting (.368), hits (50) and doubles (eight). Howell finished with 44 hits and led Clark Atlanta in runs with 29. Johnson recorded a 3.69 ERA in 2016 and finished with four saves.

Miles was represented by infielder Damion Williams and outfielder Ryan Bargery on the first team. Bargery hit .331 last year and was second on the team in runs (50). He finished the season with 51 hits and 14 doubles.

Shortstop Reginald Rogers (Claflin) led the Panthers to its first-ever SIAC baseball championship last year. Rogers also led his team in hits (58) and runs (43). He hit. 322 on the year and recorded 39 RBI.

Outfielders David White, Jr. (Benedict) and Michael Druhan (Spring Hill) completed the first team picks. White hit a team-high .409 in 2016 which included 61 hits. He also led the Tigers in RBI (48) and homeruns (14). Druhan was solid at the plate for the Badgers and finished the year hitting .378. He recorded 62 hits, 40 runs, 54 RBI, and 11 homeruns.

Benedict had three players selected to the second team: Catcher Joel Manzano, shortstop Armando Valentin and outfielder Andrew McCoy.

The Tigers open the 2017 season on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Bluefield State College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
