ATLANTA – Elgin Woodside (Tuskegee) was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Player of the Week and teammateJoseph Mauldin was selected as the Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elgin Woodside, 2B, 5-10, 200, Fr., New Orleans, La. (Thomas Jefferson HS)
Woodside went 6-for-8 in his first collegiate appearance on Friday against Morehouse College in a doubleheader. The freshman finished the weekend hitting .750 with four runs scored and five runs batted in. He also added a pair of homeruns and slugged 1.500 in the two games, while recording an on-base percentage of .750 with a pair of stolen bases.

In the opener, Woodside went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of runs batted in as he connected on his first collegiate homerun in a 9-7 loss to Morehouse. In the nightcap, Woodside finished a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. He added his second homerun and stole both bases in a 12-2 victory.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Joseph Mauldin, P, 6-3, 240, Jr., Lancaster, Calif. (Antelope Valley College)
Mauldin picked up his first collegiate victory with a complete game four-hitter in a 12-2 victory over Morehouse. In seven innings he allowed just two runs, one of which was earned. He also finished five strikeouts, while Morehouse hit just .148 against him in the victory.
