Baseball Picked 4th In Black College Nines Poll, Five Eagles Named Preseason All-Elite

BALTIMORE – The defending MEAC Regular Season Champion Coppin State baseball team has been picked fourth in the Black College Nines Large School Poll, the website announced on Tuesday.  Additionally, five Eagles were named to the HBCU Preseason Elite Team.

Coppin finished behind MEAC rival North Carolina A&T, Texas Southern and Alabama State in the Preseason Poll and were ranked just ahead of Jackson State, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling State, North Carolina central, Florida A&M and Norfolk State.

Sophomores Derek Lohr (SS) and Marcos Castillo (OF), as well as junior Corey Treyes (Relief Pitcher) were named to the First Team at their respective positions.  Senior pitcher Jahmon Taylor and senior first baseman Nazier McIlwain earned Second Team recognition.

Opening Day for Coppin is set for February 15 at Savannah State, the start of a four game series with the Tigers.  The Eagles then head back North for their scheduled home opening series against Albany on February 23-24.
