Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wins Third-Straight SWAC West Division Third

GRAMBLING, La. – The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions have captured their third-straight Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division title with a 15-5 victory over Grambling State on Saturday at Ellis Field.

UAPB (19-22, 15-5 SWAC) opened up the game in the fifth inning, as they added seven more runs to their lead, 11-1. With two outs, the Golden Lions’ Jerimiah Figueroa picked up a two-RBI double, which was followed with a RBI-double by Roberto Colon. Jordan Knox doubled in two more runs with Dontrell Brown continuing the RBI-double train, knocking in two more runs.

Brown picked up four RBI on two hits and a walk for the Golden Lions while Knox, Colon, Figueroa and Aderly Perez each picked up two RBI.

Grambling State’s (22-22, 15-7 SWAC) early runs came on a Larry Barraza solo home run in the fifth and a two-run home run by Daniel Barnett. Johan Mojica collected a RBI-single in the sixth while Angel Peguero singled in Barnett.

Grambling State’s Tanner Raiburn (3-6) gave up eight runs on 10 hits, struck out six and walked three over 4.2 innings to take the loss.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff hurler Anthony Bowmaker (6-1) scattered four runs on six hits, walked five, struck out three and hit one in five innings for the win.
