LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball program released its regular season slate Tuesday afternoon with the Braves hosting 14 contests at Wille E. “Rat” McGowan Stadium.

Alcorn’s 45-game schedule will feature a challenging non-conference portion in which it will take on a College World Series participant in Mississippi State, a Super Regional qualifier in Ole Miss and three separate squads who made the NCAA Tournament in 2019 (McNeese, Florida A&M, Southern).

“We’re excited about the upcoming 2020 season,” said head coach Bretton Richardson. “We look forward to competing for a SWAC Championship. Go Braves!”

The purple and gold will open the campaign opposite a trio of SWAC West foes in New Orleans from February 14-16 during the Andre Dawson Tournament.

Coach Richardson’s bunch will then travel to a pair of SEC powerhouses who ended last season inside the top-15 as they face Ole Miss (Feb. 19) and Mississippi State (Feb. 26) with the Jackie Robinson Tournament (Feb. 21-23) sandwiched between them in Jackson.

The Baseball Braves begin conference play with a three-game road trip at JSU (Feb. 28 – March 1).

After a trip to New Orleans to face the Privateers of UNO, Alcorn will open its home slate with a weekend series versus Alabama A&M, March 6-8.

The Braves will then have to wait nearly a month to play in Lorman again as it will then traverse a 13-game road stretch at Alabama State (March 13-15), Grambling State (March 17), Florida A&M (March 20-22), Nicholls (March 24-25), Mississippi Valley State (March 27-29) and the University of New Orleans (April 1).

A homestand with Jackson State (April 3-5) awaits the purple and gold when it returns to The Reservation before heading back out on the road to face Alabama A&M (April 10-12) in Huntsville.

Alcorn will then host Grambling State in a midweek special (April 14) and then welcoming the reigning SWAC East champion Alabama State Hornets pay a visit from April 17-19.

Three more road tilts await Coach Richardson’s ballclub as it makes the short trek to Tougaloo College on April 21 prior to finishing up its road portion of the regular season with a two-game non-conference matchup at McNeese (April 28-29).

The Baseball Braves will wrap up the 2020 regular season in front of the home faithful with a weekend series versus the Delta Devils (May 1-3) before closing out the campaign with the defending conference champion Southern Jaguars coming to Willie E. “Rat” McGowan Stadium on May 6.

The SWAC Championships will take place from May 20-24 with the top four teams from each division battling it out for the title.
