LORMAN, Miss. – Despite the season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Black College Nines released its 2020 HBCU honors, and senior Travaris Cole from the Alcorn State University baseball program was named the HBCU National Player of the Year, while sophomore Tristin Garcia earned a spot on the First-Team.

Cole, an outfielder from Monticello, Mississippi, started in every game for the Braves. He finished second in the SWAC in homers with three and third in RBIs with six.

In 12 games, he tallied at least two hits four times. He turned in a monster outing in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff with four hits including a grand slam and six RBIs.

Cole led the Braves in hits, homers, RBIs, runs scored and slugging percentage. He hit for a .313 batting average.

Garcia, a second baseman from Louisville, Kentucky, finished top-10 in the conference in batting average with a team-high .333 mark. He was the second-toughest hitter to strikeout in the league with a 9.8 ratio per at-bat.

Garcia led Alcorn in multi-hit and multi-RBI outings with four each. He submitted a huge performance against Ole Miss where he registered four hits including a homer.

Garcia ended top-50 in the nation in RBIs per game with 1.22.
