LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University senior baseball player Brandon Rembert has been acknowledged as one of the top players to watch in the SWAC by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as announced on January 3.
Rembert led the Braves a season ago in batting average (.345) and on-base percentage (.462) while placing eighth and fifth in the conference, respectively.
“Brandon is a young man that works extremely hard not only on the field but in the classroom as well,” said head coach Bretton Richardson. “He’s going to be a very important part of our season this year.”
The 2019 Alcorn Sportsmanship Award winner ranked among the squad’s top-three players in a majority of categories last year including hits (48), runs scored (38), walks (29), doubles (9) and homers (3).
The Pensacola, Florida native had the second-highest on-base streak of the campaign as he reached safely 12 straight times at one point, which trailed only Tristin Garcia’s 15 on the ballclub.
A transfer from Coastal Alabama-Brewton Community College, his first season on The Reservation saw the outfielder log 14 multi-hit performances along with five games of three hits or more. Rembert caught fire midway through the season, smacking 11 base knocks in a four-game span from March 16-22 while ending the year with nine consecutive contests where he reached base safely.
Rembert and the Baseball Braves will open up the 2020 regular season in New Orleans from February 14-16 where it will battle Prairie View A&M, Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Andre Dawson Tournament.
