– As a team, Alcorn ranked inside the top-30 in the NCAA for triples per game and the top-45 for triples. The Braves hit 0.36 triples per game (4th in SWAC) and 16 overall (5th in SWAC) over 45 games played.

– The Braves were in the top half of the conference for doubles per game (1.47) and strikeouts per nine innings (7.6).

– The Baseball Braves saw three different players earn SWAC Player of the Week honors; Bukhari Brown (Pitcher), Kyle Jenkins (Hitter) and Carlos Lopez (Pitcher).

– Senior Carlos Lopez became Alcorn’s all-time career strikeout leader, ending with 236 over his four seasons.  He passed the previous mark of 219 set by Steve Easter with a strikeout in the top of the ninth against Tougaloo on April 17th.  Lopez recorded 64 punchouts in 2019, good for seventh in the SWAC.

– Junior Kyle Jenkins finished the campaign seventh in total home runs (9) in the SWAC, while pacing the club in slugging percentage (.506), RBIs (37) and total bases (80). The catcher from Jacksonville, Florida hit the eight-most homers in a single season for the Braves and is now tied for seventh on the all-time career list at 13 long balls. Jenkins had nine multi-RBI performances, a team-high.

– From April 26-28 in a three-game set with Mississippi Valley State, Jenkins went 7-for-13 (.538 average) with four home runs, seven runs scored, a double, a triple and three walks. In the series finale on Sunday, Jenkins set career-highs for hits (4), home runs (3), runs scored (5) and RBIs (6) in a 14-12 series-clinching victory, earning him SWAC Hitter of the Week honors for April 29.

– Freshman Tristin Garcia provided a spark as the primary leadoff hitter, as was the club leader in hits (54) and triples (3 – 9th in SWAC).

– Garcia also ranked among the Braves top-three in batting average (.344 – 9th in SWAC), runs scored (31), doubles (9), total bases (75), slugging (.478) and steals (5) while fronting the squad with 20 multiple-hit outings.

– Senior Brandon Barna became the 48th player in school history to reach the 100-hit milestone on March 30 with a two-RBI single in the top of the sixth versus Jackson State. Barna presently stands concluded his career with 120 career base knocks, tying him with Jabari Graham (2008-2009) for 33rd in program history.

– Junior Brandon Rembert paced all Braves hitters with 0.71 walks per game, a .345 batting average (8th in SWAC) and a .462 on-base percentage (5th in SWAC) while placing third or better in runs scored (38), hits (48), doubles (9), walks (29) and slugging (.489).

– Junior closer Austin Atwood registered a win or save in nine of the team’s 14 victories, ending the season second in the SWAC with six saves while also picking up a team-best three wins.

– Senior Kirt Cormier concluded the year as the tenth-best in the conference at picking up walks (30) and has the Braves’ longest hitting streak of the year (10 games) as well as the longest on-base streak (19 games).

– Tristin Garcia tied Cormier for longest consecutive stretch with a hit (10 games) while Garcia (15 games), Rembert (12 games) and junior Jordan McGowan (10 games) each logged double-digit on-base streaks at one point or another over the duration of the year.

– The Alcorn State University baseball program is set to replace its five graduating seniors from the 2019 team; Bukhari BrownBrendly MartinaKirt CormierBrandon Barna and Carlos Lopez.
