Albany State Golden Rams Earn Top Seed For SIAC Tournament

ALBANY, Ga.- On Sunday, the Albany State baseball team defeated Kentucky State to win the SIAC East Division and claim the number one seed for the upcoming league tournament. Now, ASU will attempt to win the program’s second tournament title in three years.

ASU will compete in the 2017 SIAC Baseball Championship Tournament May 4-7. The double elimination tournament will be held at the Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga.

Albany State (17-28 overall and 15-6 in the SIAC) will face #4W LeMoyne-Owen College (6-22, 4-11). The Golden Rams swept LOC in a three-game series March 18-19. The scores of those contests were 7-0, 13-9 and 11-9. The two teams will play at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The ASU-LOC winner will advance to face the #2W Kentucky State (17-32, 12-9)-#3E Paine College (20-20, 12-8) victor. KSU and PC will play each other at 3 p.m. on the first day of competition.

In other first round tournament action, #2E Benedict College and #3W Tuskegee University will open the tournament with a 9 a.m. contest. That game will be followed by #1W Miles College and #4E Claflin University at 12 p.m.
