ALBANY – The Albany State University baseball team moved their record to 6-5 overall with a 5-2 win over Thomas University Tuesday afternoon at West Campus field.

The Night Hawks came up short in a late rally attempt scoring a run in each of their final two trips to the plate.

Tyler Wilcher improved to 2-1 as a starter for the Golden Rams this season, holding the Night Hawks scoreless through 7 innings, striking out five along the way. He tossed three innings where the bases were left empty including the Night Hawks’ first at bat where catcher Lawrence Hyde‘s throw caught Jalbert Melo’s steal attempt at second. Wilcher only allowed two base runners in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but got out of the inning with a strike out and a groundout to second base.

The Rams got on the scoreboard in their half of the first inning after a lead off error put Rilliani Familia on. Two batters later, a two out single by Tyler Morris scored Familia and ASU led 1-0. In the bottom of the second inning, back to back triples from Kelvin Wimbish and Familia drove in two more runs to put ASU up 3-0.

Familia, who finished a home run short of a cycle, had an RBI double and single in the fourth and sixth, respectively to give the Rams for a 5-0 advantage.

The Golden Rams will return to action tomorrow at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
