Albany State Baseball Gets Opening Day Sweep of Young Harris

ALBANY, Ga. – The Golden Rams baseball team began their 2019 campaign on Saturday by hosting a doubleheader with the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College.

Game 1

ASU wasted no time getting on the board in their first game as Johnathan Cirullo earned a walk then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. A single moved Cirullo to third and Kevin Bryant IIpicked up the RBI on a groundout to first base.

After a leadoff single by Avery Roth in the 2nd inning, Quantico Dodson-Williams tripled to right field to make the lead 2-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.

It would be all the host school needed as Roman Oliu (1-0) picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work. Oliu allowed no runs on two hits while striking out two.

Michael Reddick (1) picked up the save for ASU after completing a perfect 9th inning.

Game 2

Travis Ray Jr. broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a double to centerfield that plated two.

Young Harris struck right back in the top of the 4th scoring two runs on two hits and an ASU error.

A pair of RBI singles from Cirullo and Chasen Roulhac in the bottom the 4th inning put the Golden Rams up for good as they cruised to a 9-2 victory.

Bryant II finished with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored while Roulhac and Ray Jr. both had two RBI apiece.

Malik Barrington (1-0) got the win after working 4.0 innings and surrendering two runs on two hits while striking out five.

Albany State (2-0) will wrap up their weekend series with Young Harris (0-2) on Sunday at the Golden Rams’ Field at West Campus. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
