BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State senior outfielder Yamil Pagan was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week for his performance over the weekend against Alcorn State, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The senior outfielder finished the weekend hitting .563 against Alcorn State in four games, as he finished the weekend 9-of-16. He also scored 10 runs and drove in 11 more from his lead off position, including picking up a triple and three home runs. He connected on a pair of home runs in the doubleheader Saturday for the Hornets, who scored 71 runs in the conference series as a team. He also slugged 1.250 in four conference games, while walking six times (hit once) and recording an on-base percentage of .696.

For the week, Pagan finished at .423 (11-for-26) with 13 runs scored. He finished the week slugging .846 and recording an on-base percentage of .545. His best game of the week came against Alcorn State on Friday (4/12/19) when he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five runs batted, and he followed that up by going 3-for-4 in the opener on Saturday (4/13/19) with a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and five runs batted in.

Alabama State returns to action Tuesday night on the road at North Alabama in Florence (Ala.), with first pitch set for 5 pm. The game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network, before the Hornets work their way over to Huntsville (Ala.) for a three-game series at Alabama A&M beginning Thursday.
