MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University baseball team will look to keep its winning streak going this weekend as the Hornets take on Alabama A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series.

The first game of the series will be the Magic City Diamond Classic in Birmingham, Ala., as Alabama State and Alabama A&M meet at Regions Field at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams will conclude the series Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) in Huntsville, Ala.

Alabama State (14-15 overall, 10-2 SWAC), which went 9-9 in March, is currently riding a seven-game winning streak.

ASU is coming off back-to-back SWAC sweeps against Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State, with a non-conference win over Florida A&M on March 29. The Hornets continue to lead the Eastern Division of the SWAC standings by one full game over Jackson State.

Alabama State went 4-0 last week, earning wins over Florida A&M and Alcorn State.

Alabama A&M (8-25, 5-7) has dropped its last six games after sweeping Alcorn State (March 24-26). The Bulldogs lost all three last weekend to Jackson State and fell in their only mid-week game to Samford, 11-3.

The Hornets will send Tyler Howe to the mound on Friday, Burke Echelmeier on Saturday and a pitcher to be determined for the series finale.

ASU, winners of eight out of the last nine in the series, took two-of-three in March against the Bulldogs. ASU won the series opener on March 3, 14-2, but dropped a 5-2 decision on Saturday. The Hornets closed out the series with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings.

First pitch at Regions Field for the Magic City Diamond Classic is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
