MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State opens Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this weekend with a three-game series beginning Friday night against Mississippi Valley State at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 6 pm Friday night. Tickets are available for $5 at the gate, or by calling (334) 229-4551. Season tickets are currently on sale in the Alabama State ticket office until March 11, for more information contact the ticket office at the number listed above.

In the last two years under head coach Jose’ Vazquez, Alabama State has won their conference-opening series including a sweep of Alcorn State last season at home. The Hornets and Mississippi Valley State met six times last season, with the Hornets winning five of six in the series on their way to the East Division championships.

Alabama State will send Darrius Wright (1-0, 13.50 ERA) to the mound Friday night against Nicholas Johnson (0-0, 1.50 ERA) of Mississippi Valley State. They will send Darren Kelly(1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Breon Pooler (0-0, 4.15 ERA) to the mound for the final two games of the series against pitchers to be announced by the Delta Devils.

Keeping an Eye on the Weather
