MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and head baseball coach Jose’ Vazquez released the 2018 Hornets baseball schedule Wednesday morning, highlighted by season-opening tournament in New Orleans and a home game against an SEC foe.
Alabama State (31-25 last season) opens the season on the road at the Andre Dawson Classic, playing three games in three days. The Hornets will open the season against Prairie View A&M (February 16) and UAPB (February 18), with a game against New Orleans February 17.
The Hornets will play home and home non-conference games against UAB, Jacksonville State, Samford, South Alabama and Troy – beginning with UAB February 20 (Birmingham) and February 21 (Montgomery). Alabama State plays their first conference series of the year at home the weekend of February 23 against Southern, with a doubleheader scheduled for February 24.
Alabama State concludes a five-game home stand with a game against Jacksonville State February 27, before returning the favor and playing in Jacksonville April 17. The Hornets will hit the road to face Alabama to close out the month of February (February 28).
Following the game with the Crimson Tide, Alabama State hosts Alcorn State the weekend of March 2 in conference play, followed by a non-conference road game against South Alabama (March 6) and a weekend series with Alabama AQ&M beginning March 9.
After a pair of home non-conference games – Florida A&M (March 13) and Samford (March 14) – the Hornets host Jackson State the weekend of March 13, before hitting the road for a three-game road swing against Morehead State (March 20-21) and Troy (March 27). The Hornets then host Mississippi Valley State the weekend of March 29.
Alabama State hits the road for four games against Samford (April 3) and Alcorn State (weekend of April 6). The Hornets then return home for non-conference games against South Alabama (April 10) ad Mississippi State (April 11), before a conference series against Alabama A&M beginning April 13.
The Hornets play their final home game against Troy on April 18, before closing out the season with nine consecutive road games – all three game series. The nine games involve Jackson State (weekend of April 20), Florida A&M (weekend of April 27) and Mississippi Valley State (weekend of May 4).
