MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State begins a four game road swing Tuesday night in Florence (Ala.), facing North Alabama for the second time in 2019.

Alabama State (20-15) and North Alabama (9-26) met earlier this season at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex, with the Lions coming away with an 8-1 victory. The two will meet at 5 pm at Mike Lane Field Tuesday night, with the game being carried by the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 4:45 pm.

The Hornets come in winners of seven of their last nine games, including a four game sweep of Alcorn State this past weekend. In that sweep, Alabama State recorded 71 runs and scored 20-plus runs two difference times including matching a season-best 23 runs in the series finale. Alabama State is in search of their second in-state midweek win of the season, having defeated Jacksonville State on the road back on March 27.

Alabama State will send Darrius Wright (2-2, 7.51 ERA) to the mound Tuesday night for his second consecutive midweek start. The senior did not factor into the decision at Troy after leaving with a 7-3 lead, his last start. He will be countered by Josh Stillman (1-0, 5.20 ERA) for North Alabama.

As a team, Alabama State is hitting .299 with 305 runs scored (sixth best in the nation) and 365 hits. The Hornets have combined for 129 extra base hits on the year, including 57 doubles and 41 home runs. They have also connected on 11 triples.

Yamil Pagan – who leads the nation in runs scored with 52 – leads the Hornets at the plate, hitting .369 (.660 / .486) with 52 hits, including 27 extra base hits. The senior leadoff hitter has 10 home runs and 39 runs batted in, while also recording nine stolen bases. Meanwhile, Noel Cheneau is hitting .353 (.614 / .411) on the season with eight doubles and four triples. He also has eight home runs, 48 runs batted in and a team-high 15 stolen bases.

Eriq White (.336 / .486 / .428) is among the team leaders in runs scored with 43, while he leads the team with 11 doubles. Santiago Garcia (.327 / .562 / .365) has 10 doubles, seven home runs and 43 runs batted in on the season; while Angel Jimenez has raised his average by nearly 80 points (.304 / .406 / .429) over the last week with five extra base hits.

The teams have met three times previously with North Alabama winning all three including a pair back in 1987 (7-6, 9-0). This will be the first meeting between the two at Mike Lane Field this season.
