Alabama A&M Bulldogs Win 4-1 Over Murray State

HUNTSVILLE – The Alabama A&M University Baseball team held off the visiting Racers of Murray State on Tuesday afternoon in the Bulldogs’ 4-1 defeat at Bulldog Field.

The Racers (1-3) got on the board early in the first frame with a RBI single to right field to take an early 1-0 lead.

AAMU (3-1) answered back in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly from Carson McGregory to score Carlton Peppers and tie the game up, 1-1.

In the fifth, McGregory hit into double play to score Jonathan Smith II and give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game.

In the bottom half of the seventh, the Bulldogs added a pair of runs to push the lead to 4-1 thanks to a McGregory RBI double and a Wilanier Betancourt sac fly. AAMU were able to hold the Racers scoreless the remaining two innings to secure the victory.

Clayton Warner picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Warner pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on six hits, while striking-out three batters.  Casey Warnerpitched an inning and Jose Figueroa entered in the eighth for a pair of scoreless innings to retire the Racers with one hit and three strikeouts.

Alabama A&M returns to Bulldog Field on Friday when they host Morehead State University for a three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
