2017 All-CIAA Baseball Teams; Player, Rookie, And Coach of The Year Announcement

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), along with its Baseball Coaches and Sports Information Directors Associations, announces the 2017 All-Conference Teams, All-Rookie Team, Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Ivan Acuna, senior second baseman from Winston-Salem State University, has been named CIAA Baseball Player of the Year. The Venezuela native is one of the top offensive players in the conference with 52 runs, 62 hits, 10 home runs, and 49 runs batted in (RBIs) this season. Defensively, Acuna holds a .907 fielding percentage with 83 putouts and 83 assists in 47 games played.

Corey Fago, freshman left-handed pitcher from Chowan University, has been named CIAA Baseball Rookie of the Year. In his first season with the team, Fago appeared in 11 conference games for the Hawks for 23 innings pitched and 23 strikeouts. He limited his opponents to a batting average of .218 for a 2-0 record this season.

Chowan Head Coach Taylor Furlough earns his first CIAA Baseball Coach of the Year honor after being named Coach of the Week 3 times during the 2017 season. Coach Furlough led his team to a 13-3 record in conference play while marking an overall record of 25-23. Coming in to this year’s tournament ranked No. 2, the Hawks are looking to defend their 2016 CIAA Baseball Championship title.
