Charlotte, NC (April 27, 2016) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), along with its Baseball Coaches Association, announces the 2016 All-Conference Teams, All-Rookie Team, Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Steger-_Nathan_HS_2016Nathan Steger, senior right-handed pitcher and infielder from Winston-Salem State University, has been named CIAA Baseball Player of the Year.  At the mound, the Dyersville, Iowa native leads the conference with a 2.70 earned run average.  Per game, Steger averages 8.1 strikeouts for a total of 51 strikeouts while giving up only forty-four hits this season.  A strong contributor on offense, Steger accounted for 36 runs, 58 hits, 16 doubles, six home runs, and thirty-seven runs batted in.

 

Jordan_ClaytorJordan Claytor, freshman right-handed pitcher from Virginia State University, earns the CIAA Baseball Rookie of the Year honor.  Throughout the season, the Dinwiddie, Virginia native pitched sixty-one innings for a 5.90 earned run average and 36 strikeouts (5.31 avg.).

 

 

kevin_ritsche_150wWinston-Salem State Head Coach Kevin Ritsche earns his fifth consecutive Baseball Coach of the Year title.  Under his guidance, the Rams earned Regular Season Baseball Champions and enter the 2016 Tournament at the No. 1 seed.  Defending CIAA Champion WSSU posted a 13-3 conference and 27-19 overall record.  Seeking their sixth-straight CIAA Championship Title, the Rams lead the conference in slugging percentage (.603), earned run average (2.76), and fielding percentage (.960).
